In a digital world filled with a lot of noise, I try my best to cut through the distractions in search of the good – by learning how I impact my neighborhood and by supporting the kinds of businesses with missions I respect. Sure, there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism, but hey, we can still do our best to leave the world a little better than we found it by living with intention and staying curious.

Some backstory
Hi, I’m Dominique.
In one way or another, I’ve always been a storyteller. But I first started creating online content in earnest with my Peace Corps blog, where I wrote about things like Jamaican street style, reggae music history, and what living abroad was like for me.
Over time, I shared more and more of my life at home. From decorating my first DC apartment on a budget (my sofa cost $150 and even that felt like a lot) to taking care of my houseplants and covering the walls of my rental in fun wallpaper, I loved talking with folks about making our spaces feel like home.
In a lot of ways, sharing my love for interior decorating is a nod to my inner child. When I was a kid, I spent my summers drawing furniture plans by hand on graph paper, decorating dollhouses with my grandma, and watching HGTV on the floor of our living room. I painted my bedroom for the first time when I was ten, reupholstered my first chair at 13, and took a (terrible) class on AutoCAD at 15.
In 2021, I left my job in the federal government to pursue dual master's degrees in community planning and data science. I had grown frustrated watching the city gentrify around me at a breakneck pace and decided it was time to do something. I dreamed about becoming an interior designer, but instead, I’m studying to be a city planner – it’s kind of similar, but on a much bigger scale and with lots of other people involved. 😅
Now, I'm an aspiring housing expert and believe everyone has a right to a decent home they can afford.
